When people hear about Dr. Matt, conversation quickly comes to Diabetes Training Camp. But though DTC has been Dr. Matt’s longest and strongest connection to Type 1 diabetes, it’s not his first. Diabetes Training Camp

Founder & President

Offering live and virtual events since 2007, DTC is Dr. Matt’s premier event for adults and teen with Type 1 diabetes. At DTC, campers learn, train and connect with coaches from all disciplines of athletics, including nutrition, mental skills, and sports physiology.

In 2015, Dr. Matt launched Diabetes Training Camp Foundation, which provides scholarships to campers all around the world.

Team Physician & Medical Consultant

Triabetes Triathlon Team, Team Type 1, Team Wild Triathlon Team

2007-2009

From 2007-2009, Dr. Matt’s expertise was called upon by three different diabetes organizations, including Team Type 1, the precursor to Team Novo Nordisk. With Dr. Matt’s help, these organizations helped athletes worldwide to thrive with Type 1 diabetes.

 

Stroke, Spin, Stride: The Diabetes Training Camp for Athletes with Type 1

Founder & Director

2006

Held at the Rodale Aquatic Center in Allentown, PA with 2000 USA Olympic cyclist, Nicole Freedman, Stroke, Spin, Stride was the precursor for Diabetes Training Camp.

Diabetes Exercise & Sports Association (DESA)

2003

The roots of diabetes coupled with exercised can be traced to the foundation of the International Diabetic Athletes Association (IDAA) in 1985. The organization, founded by Paula Harper, a registered nurse, changed its name to Diabetes Exercise & Sports Association in 2000. Dr. Matt was the Medical Program Director for DESA in 2003. He served on the organization’s Board from 2003-2006 and was the Founder of DESA-Chicago.
